Charles Spano considers himself a follower of the Werner Herzog ideology of "rogue filmmaking" - an expert at guerrilla tactics, renegade budgeting, and filming in adverse conditions. His writing focuses on themes of communication and miscommunication, humans against nature, and humans against human nature. He has studied Anthropology, hiked throughout California and the Northeast, bicycled the cobblestone roads of France, backpacked Nicaragua, filmed break-dancers in Uganda, directed in a bulletproof vest (when necessary), and has circumnavigated the globe.
