The nanosecond after turning 18 Wolf moved from the new age comedy known as Ojai California to the old school drama that is Los Angeles.Living next door to wacky neighbors in Silverlake while attending studies at the Los Angeles Theatre Academy, Wolf discovers his preference for writing and directing, and that the rambunctious house next door holds the yet unknown Coen Brothers, Francis Mcdormand & Sam Raimi. After school he traveled the world for a year and a half then settled in Europe and quite accidentally began one career as a fashion photographer in Paris. Spending almost as much time in the Bains Douche as the studio described a very pleasant, but all too easy culdesac. In 1987 he moved to Venice Beach California. Experimenting in The Venetian Wonderhut - an eccentric creative crucible and laboratory - he forged a creative, music & writing collaboration with best friend and roommate -Lewis John Carlino Jr. that has spanned decades. Since Carlino wouldn't work or pay rent, Wolf supported the beach side lab with work on numerous Hollywood film projects including: as assistant editor on Sam Raimi's Evil Dead II, art director on the Emmy Award winning NBC series Northern Exposure, art director on music videos for Propaganda, assistant & producer to photographers such as Michael Childers, Peggy Sirota & Annie Leibovitz and variously as sound mixer and camera op. on numerous indie features. In the late 80's Wolf moved to Laurel Canyon and threw such memorable parties, they evolved into underground two day long events utilizing a host of installation and performance artist friends from Cal Arts. Soon he was producing large scale events and a multimedia environmental experience that was a precursor to all things Burning Man. His band-centric event "RealTime" was voted most cutting edge by US magazines 1989 - decade end issue.Moving back to Europe again in the mid 90's Johann Wolf expanded his commercial eye as a Creative Director for advertising agencies - Bates, Saatchi, Leo Burnett, and Ogilvy. Feeling like a spy behind enemy lines especially in a suit at Phillip Morris or P&G meetings - the adagency experience organically led him back to film and photography - directing and producing TV commercials, print campaigns and music videos. In 1998 he founded the mega post-soviet commercial production company Radioaktivefilm in Kiev Ukraine, which now produces an average of 70 commercials per year, as well as numerous music videos and other film and entertainment related projects. Coining the slogan "Soviet Style" Wolf became known globally as the Russian/Ukrainian go-to film connection and became the leader in forging foreign co- productions offering production services that utilize the regions cinematic locations, talent and cost effectiveness. In 2004 Wolf moved back to the Left Coast to raise his cool and clever daughter Taia, now 10, in the sanctuary of home town Ojai.He continues to enjoy and expand his creative career as a commercial director, creative director, producer and photographer and recently founded the Creative Agency / Production Company boutique spacemonkeycreative / spacemonkeyfilm.
