Ryan LaPlante is a multiple award-winning Filmmaker and Screenwriter with a background in performance of all kinds.His directorial debut feature film, Holy Hell, which he wrote and starred in, was completed in early 2015. It has toured the US film festival circuit and will continue screening in festivals around the world throughout 2016. Thus far it has been awarded the #1 Horror/Comedy Feature at the 20th Annual International Indie Gathering, Best Comedy Feature at the Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival and the Roger & Julie Corman Award for Excellence in Exploitation and Drive-In Film-making at the Fargo Fantastic Film Festival.In addition to Holy Hell's success, Ryan's screenplays have been made official selections or contest finalists at festivals throughout the USA, including: Shriekfest, The Mile High Horror Fest, The NOLA New Orleans Horror Festival, The Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival, The Action on Film Festival, The Creative World Awards and The Haunted Horror International Film Festival. His revenge thriller Zero Sum Game was awarded Best Unproduced Feature at the Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival.Ryan grew up in Barrie, Ontario, where he spent the earliest years of his life absorbed in books and movies. Unlike most other kids, however, he always wanted to play the villains. As he grew older he joined the Kempenfelt Community Players and found a new passion on the stage. For the following fifteen years he never went more than a month between shows.After high school, Ryan moved to Kingston where he studied at Queen's University, eventually earning a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Drama. While there he cemented a professional reputation with Theatre by the Bay in Barrie (where he was hired in different capacities every summer for ten years) and co-founded Vagabond Theatre: Canada's First Student Shakespearean Repertoire Company.After Queen's, Ryan moved to Toronto where he continued training while working in television, radio, feature film and commercials. It was at this point he formalized his comedy training by joining the Second City Training Center's Improv Conservatory from which he graduated in 2013.After that graduation, Ryan threw himself wholeheartedly into his career. Since then he's appeared in films along Kristian Bruun (Orphan Black), Munro Chambers (Degrassi: The Next Generation), Alysa King (Berkshire County, Slasher) and countless other talented professionals.With an anarchistic sense of humor and a driving passion for film and television, Ryan is excited to be constantly learning and creating.
