Carry on Screaming!
This episode of the long-running British comedy series parodies horror movies as it follows the exploits of bumbling private eyes in pursuit of two monsters. They soon find themselves in Dr. Watt's terrible castle. Doc Watt, a ghoul returned to life and his seductive sister amuse themselves by kidnapping pretty girls and turning them into department store dummies.

Sometimes funny.

Apart from an engaging performance by Jim Dale, this is glum stuff even by Carry On standards.

Behind the pantomime overacting and the playground gags is a creepy horror homage that gets all the details right.

This 12th of the franchise shows that the series could also tackle satire, as well as the tits and bum humour.

Gerald Thomas' direction as usual is assured, though some of the gags and situations would be helped by speeding up via more ruthless trimming.
