The Yellow Birds
Two young soldiers, Bartle (21) and Murph (18) navigate the terrors of the Iraq war under the command of the older, troubled Sergeant Sterling. All the while, Bartle is tortured by a promise he made to Murph's mother before their deployment.

There've been too many Iraq War films -- good, bad and indifferent -- to waste your time on one that's merely mediocre.

The film seems chiefly informed by other movies; the generic combat scenes are staged with the same shaky handheld "urgency" as every other Iraq War picture, while the characters have no psychology beyond the usual innocence-lost arc.
