Kate McIntyre is a versatile character actor (and yes, she prefers "actor" over "actress" - as she says, you don't call a woman doctor a "doctress," do you?) with a wide range. In her early years, she was one of those kids who never fit in - a nearly straight A student and a band geek - and she was bullied in school until she graduated from high school. Her first college class was an acting class - and from there, she was hooked. She started in community theatre, where she performed on stage, directed, stage managed, produced and built sets. Her obsession with theatre lasted for around 20 years, and she was part of more than 250 plays and musicals in theatres in Ventura and Los Angeles counties.Among her favorite characters is the first lead she played, Miss Adelaide in "Guys and Dolls." She auditioned for the character in a casting call at the Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera - just for practice (Kate says that auditions are still nerve-wracking!!), as Santa Barbara was about 50 miles north of where she lived at the time, and she truly didn't believe she had a shot at the role. She was completely and totally shocked - in a good way - when she got the call from the director offering her the role. (Note: Kate apologizes to that director, as her ears are probably still ringing from the piercing shriek of delight Kate let fly...)Kate received many suggestions from her audiences that she try acting for film and television, so she decided to give it a try. She took an on-camera commercial class, as, at the time, she had no idea how things worked on a film set. From there, she pursued her career - headshots, an agent, and some small successes in the form of some commercials and several co-star roles on network TV.Around the time of the Northridge quake (in the late 90's) things started going south in Kate's life. She lost her job due to layoffs. She also lost her rent-controlled apartment. Because of the quake, temp work in the LA area pretty much dried up, so Job 1 was to survive. Kate found a full time job and kept her acting chops in shape by doing audiobooks.In 2014, Kate had her life put back together, and she decided it was time to give acting another shot. So, new headshots, many auditions, a half dozen projects in order to get new material for her demo reel, and now, she's back in the game. Kate recently signed with a great agency (Central Artists Agency) and now, she also has a manager (Meridith Newby of Propel Management) to help guide her in this second go-round.Kate loves acting almost more than anything else, and for her, it's all about the work. She relishes quirky roles, and has had a great time with the roles she's been cast in in the projects she has done in the last few years.
