The filmmakers are just as interested in providing a build-up to their frights as they are splattering the clichés in a hilarious and spirited fashion. It's devilishly entertaining, funny, and clever to boot.

POOKA! Lives is a hell of a lot of fun. It's a horror comedy that uses amazing acting personalities that bring the film to life in a way that makes it charismatic and endearing.

Not as good as the first one, but a whole different level of creepy (in a good way). It not so subtly touches on the dangers of social media challenges in the perfect way.

At least "Pooka Lives!" gives us plenty to chew on, even if it is wildly uneven. Plus: animated end credit sequences for the win!

Director Alejandro Brugues (Juan of the Dead) takes a more straightforward approach, and never fully embraces opportunities for satire. Characters and drama are muted when they should be colorful and dynamic.

Pooka Lives! is centered around a complete nonsense holiday that I can't bring myself to reveal here. But it's good. Pooka Lives! is mostly amusing, but the best thing about it is the potential for more Pooka stories in the future, and that's no joke.

A movie that's at its best when it seems to be playfully mocking its very existence and is less effective when it tries to be a commentary on the poisonous nature of internet virality.

POOKA LIVES! is a film that embraces its silliness in a way that warms the cockles of even the most darkest of hearts. The script itself leans into the ridiculousness of its horror-filled scenario onscreen while also providing social commentary.
