Since these are, absolutely, the last TV episodes featuring Suchet as Poirot, they do provide a satisfying conclusion to a very long-running viewing experience.

No one, the great detective reminded a villain for the last time... gets the better of Hercule Poirot. And no murder mystery betters Agatha Christie's Poirot when it is as beautifully executed - a verb Poirot chillingly used last night - as Curtain.

The makers of Agatha Christie's Poirot were no doubt conscious of the antiquated nature of their endeavor, and this season they had some fun with it.

While it's sad to see Poirot's run finish, the series remains as timeless as [Agatha] Christie herself.

This felt uneasily like the funeral of an old friend. If you put aside the nominal story, it was some of the incidental detail that worked particularly well.
