Tyrant tells the story of the youngest son of a Middle Eastern dictator who returns to his homeland after 20 years and is immediately thrown back into the politics of his youth. In season 2, Barry awaits punishment for leading a failed coup, while Jamal agonizes over whether or not to execute him. This project from Gideon Raff and Howard Gordon suddenly exhibits the potential to become a fairly entertaining one, with the disclaimer that the terrain still contains an abundance of storytelling sand traps.

Lack of nuance is a huge problem for Tyrant, a tragedy considering the depiction of a foreign region's struggles is a pure exercise in nuance.
